The scene opens to find PPW President Dale Veranda holding a meeting via speakerphone. The office is small, but kept neat and tidy. The walls are adorned with photos of PPW wrestlers and pictures taken from Veranda's childhood. An occasional promotional poster from one of PPW's shows can also be seen.
Veranda: It looks as though we will make enough money to keep producing shows every two weeks. However, I'd like to suggest that we run Edison every third show in 2010. I feel that since Edison was our highest grossing venue this year, we will see increased profits from running more of our shows there. We should also invest more resources in advertising in our other towns. We drew respectable numbers for a promotion that was entirely brand new using talent that was largely unproven.
A voice can be heard from the speakerphone.
Unknown Man: That is a good plan on paper, however our profit margin will be very small. We could only increase our advertising about five percent. In order to be able to increase any further, we will need to see more sponsorship.
Veranda: Are we working on obtaining more sponsors?
A second voice can be heard on the speakerphone.
2nd Unknown Man: I have some local businesses that I'm close to signing deals with. Nothing huge, but it'll be enough to execute the plans for 2010.
Veranda: Any deals in progress with any national companies?
2nd Unknown Man: Not at the moment as we are not a big enough company. Bigger companies see our fan turnout and feel as though that they would be wasting their advertising dollars on shows that only one to two hundred people come out to.
Veranda: But if attendance were to increase, these companies will look at us as a viable advertising partner.
2nd Unknown Man: That is correct.
Veranda: We'll keep that in mind as the company grows. With the sponsors that we have now, how money are they paying per show?
2nd Unknown Man: Each sponsor pays five hundred dollars per show, and we have around ten sponsors at the moment. We make five thousand dollars per show in sponsorship. As we continue to promote, we should those figures double by the middle of next year. If we promote Edison as heavy as you suggested, we should concentrate heavily on businesses in that region. Sponsorship there can very well triple if everything works out.
Veranda: Keep working on it. Gentlemen, that will conclude our conference call for this week. Have a good week.
The other men can be heard hanging up their phones as Veranda looks over some papers. He then presses a button to hang up his speaker phone. Veranda then starts to reach for another stack of papers when the door to his office creaks open and a older ladies head pops in.
Older Lady: Mr. Veranda, one of the wrestlers is here wanting to meet with you.
Veranda: Oh, I didn't have any meetings scheduled for today.
Older Lady: He's insisting on having a meeting with you. I tried telling him that you were holding a conference call and that it'd be better to make an appointment. He stayed in the lobby the whole time. It doesn't appear he will leave. Should I let him in?
Veranda: See him in.
The lady opens the door all the way and HUGS walks into Veranda's office. Surprised, Veranda stands up and shakes hands with HUGS.
Veranda: I wasn't expecting you to drop by today. What brings you here? You have injuries to recover from.
HUGS: That's why I'm here, actually. I can't sit around and let Rollison think that he's put me out of action. You must let me compete.
Veranda: HUGS, as much as I'd like to have you wrestle, I have the report on your injuries. One of my duties as PPW President is to ensure the safety of every wrestler. In good conscious, I just cannot allow you in the ring until your ribs have healed.
HUGS: I understand your position, however, I refuse to leave here until I'm granted my wishes. I want Rollison in the ring. He will not get away with what he's done.
Veranda: I will not allow an already injured man to be further hurt inside a ring that I'm presiding over. I know what Rollison did to you was premeditated and wrong, however you will have the chance to pay him back when you are fully healthy.
HUGS: I will not wait until then. Rollison must pay and pay now.
Veranda: I see that you are serious about this. I'll only allow you back in the ring if you fulfill one of these two options. The first one is that you bring back to me notes from two reputable doctors that state that you can be cleared to wrestle. If you can't, then the only way I'll let you back in the ring is if you sign a medical waiver that'll state that you are wrestling against the companies wishes and therefore we are not responsible for any additional injuries you sustain.
HUGS: Those sound fair enough to me. Thank you for your time.
HUGS begins to stand, but Veranda motions to him that he's not done yet.
Veranda: Also, knowing what kind of individual that Rollison is, I don't think it's wise to allow you to go one on one with him where he can target your ribs the entire match. Since I haven't finalized the card for our next show, I can still change matches around. If you are able to get clearance or sign the injury waiver, I will let you team with Kandie and Kentucky and you will face Rollison, Abdullah Majid and Sheik Hassan in a six man tag team match. That part, no matter how much you protest, I will not change my mind on. Those are my conditions. The ball is in your court now.
HUGS: I will fulfill the requirement you request. The match format I have no problem with. I think this meeting is now over, thank you for your time.
The two shake hands again before HUGS walks out of the office. Once HUGS has left, Veranda gets out of his chair and walks for a filing cabinet. He opens a drawer that is empty except for some brown cabinet dividers with white labels on the tabs. He pulls one of the dividers and walks back to his desk. Opening a drawer, Veranda spots a black marker. He takes the marker out and writes on the tab, "Injury Waivers". Veranda then puts the divider back in the filing cabinet.
Veranda: Why do I have that sick feeling that I've just allowed a man to fight to his doom?
Veranda: It looks as though we will make enough money to keep producing shows every two weeks. However, I'd like to suggest that we run Edison every third show in 2010.
